Game Review: Rites of War

Developed By: Dreamforge

Platform(s): Microsoft Windows

Genre: Turn-based Strategy

Overview

Welcome to the first of a new 40k Video Game review series! With the tournament scene drawing to a close for another year, and the cold Winter and Christmas nights ahead – what better way to remain immersed in the 41st Millennium than by playing some of the great (and some not so great) 40k video games! This is going to be an ongoing series, so expect to see these crop up from time to time. I recently picked up Inquisitor: Martytr, Deathwing and Deathwatch (and i’ll get to those) – but I thought I would start with a game that is near and dear to my heart – Rites of War. I’m not going to keep all of my reviews spoiler free, but neither will I go into great detail about the storyline with each individual game – that’s half the fun! read more

The Top 10 Units in 40k

Hi everyone, thanks for clicking this clearly click-bait title!

Before most of you lean forward at your PCs (or mobile devices) with torches and pitchforks in hand in anticipation, let me preface this article by saying that this is merely one gamer’s stab at trying to pin down the top units in the game (at least for now).

Trying to predict the meta in the game right now is like dangling upside down, wearing a blindfold, trying to shoot a water pistol at a moving target all at once – nigh on impossible! For the benefit of those who may read this article at a later time, this is just after the Ork FAQ, and still before Chapter Approved, so at the time of writing these are (at least I think so anyway) reasonable opinions about the real pecking order of the 41st Millennium! read more

Harlies at Scottish Take Over 4

Just back from the Scottish Take Over 4. This is the second event I’ve been to up in Elgin, and it didn’t disappoint. I went up with a couple of friends and we recorded our usual 40k Road Trip for the podcast. You[ll hear it shortly no doubt. These are the more detailed bat reps, and some thoughts on how my list performed.

I took the same list as I took to Rapid Fire the Weekend before. For convenience it was

Harlequins at Rapid Fire 2018 – Tournament Report

I’m just back from Rapid Fire, one of the longest running tournaments in Scotland. I think it’s maybe the 10th year in a row I’ve been? As always Stirling Wargamers put on a great event in their very impressive new premises, and I had a blast.

I took Harlies (surprise surprise), eager to see how the changes in the FAQ effected them. My list

House Ordos Project Blog – Mission 12

Greetings fans of the Executrix!

If you are reading this post, i’m assuming that you have followed the journey of building this army from the start. If that’s the case (and even if it’s not), thank you SO much for following this journey. It’s been an absolute pleasure to share this experience on the website, and I hope that you’ve enjoyed following it along the way.

I feel like I have learned so much, and tried so many things:

  • Magnetising
  • Stripping Paint
  • Basing Techniques
  • Plasma Glow Effects
  • Freehand Banner Work
  • Knowing how to thin my paints!
  • Transfer sealing

I’ve made this point a few times in the series, but I really want to express how bad a hobbyist I usually am! But If I can at least have an attempt at these techniques, you absolutely can give it a go as well! I hope in some small way my techniques and experiences have helped you (or at least shown you what to avoid)! read more
