House Ordos Project Blog – Mission 1

Hi Guys!

So for those of you who know me, you will know I am an absolute hobby disaster. In fact, i’m routinely mocked with videos such as the one below (which admittedly, gets me in stitches).

I’ve also sort of adopted the monkier “Clarence”, due to my stuff looking like poor brother Clarence here:

So i’m determined to discard this moniker and produce something that is passable on the tabletop!

I’ve decided to have a go at doing an Imperial Knight (with Astra Militarum allies) army. The main reason for this is that I think that starting with Imperial Knights is hopefully going to be something easier to work with from a painting perspective. Towards that end, I have been watching the Duncan Tutorial videos on the Wahammer TV website, and I have to say that the guy is an absolute genius!

So at this stage you may be wondering “Well that’s all well and good, but what the fuck is House Ordos?” – a fair question! Warhammer 40,000 is definitely my first and greatest Sci-Fi love, but it’s really close to call otherwise. In various friendship chats, I’ve debated whether Star Trek is better than Star Wars and what IS the best Trek? (Deep Space Nine for those of you wondering!). But i think pipping all of these (narrowly, at least for me) is Dune. Now for those of you who are hardcore Dune fans, yes, House Ordos are only present in the RTS games – but they remain a cool faction, and they offer something different from the “good” and “bad” guys present in House Atriedies and House Harkonnen. Plus from a hobby standpoint I’ve never really worked on an army that had a predominantly green colour, so this interests me greatly. I also took the liberty of ordering some custom decals (these haven’t arrived yet), but they use the logo from one of the aforementioned games:

In terms of what’s going to be in the army I haven’t quite decided what the actual final list will be, but I wanted a decent “pool” of models to use. I have 2 existing Knight Wardens (which have been bathing in a tub of Dettol to strip their paint – more on this in a later blog!), and 2 Armiger Warglaives. I also have ordered a Castellan, and 2 Armiger Helverins. In terms of the infantry to be used for the Astra Militarum detachment, Innes actually recommended the very cool Van Saar Necromunda Models:

These are very “Ordos” – sickly and weak looking, but reliant on their (often forbidden) technology. Very fortuitously for me as well, is the fact that there have been some Duncan tutorials for these guys as well.

So i’m excited about the project, and I will be tracking my progress via the website. I’m going to be making a really concerted effort to not “Clarence it up” – I have no delusions about how good i’m going to be, but i’m going to try hard to reach mediocrity as opposed to ultimate failure! Hope you’re looking forward to the ride!
